game: Lost: Via Domus
review | 03/22/08 | Shawn Rider
Never one to leave any stone unturned for clues about the next big revelation on Lost, our intrepid Editor in Chief, Shawn Rider, takes a look at Lost: Via Domus. It\'s a dirty job that nobody else wanted, and evidence that Shawn clearly has a problem. It\'s not a great game, but it is a solid six to eight hours of time spent with Lost. And sometimes that\'s all you need.
game: Gleemax
editorial | 09/06/07 | Chris Martin
We went in expecting Magic the Gathering Online Version 3, but what we got was much, much bigger than we anticipated. PAX 07 was great for a number of reasons - concerts, contests, Family Feud - but Wizards of the Coast\'s ace in the hole Gleemax took us aback, slapped us around, and handed to us the most complete vision of an online gaming community we\'ve ever seen. Complete with indie game developer support, event hosting, and cross-game currency and trading. Don\'t know about Gleemax? You should, and here\'s why...
editorial | 09/05/07 | Monica Hafer
Our roving reporter Monica Hafer, in search of excitement and mayhem, wound in up San Diego for this year\'s Comic-Con. This year was the biggest turnout in its history, selling out all four days of the convention. Prepare to be delighted in the latest comics, games, and costumes that our girl could find and pictures of some of the festivities!
game: Bioshock
news | 08/13/07 | Chris Martin
This came out of nowhere. The studio formerly known as Irrational (they changed their two divisions\' names to 2K Australia and 2K Boston) get a big pat on the back for sneaking their demo onto Xbox Live on Sunday. Bioshock, which puts you through the eyes of a crash victim who gets stuck in the underwater dystopia known only as Rapture, just went gold last week. Now, we\'ll get to sample what we\'re betting is going to be a ground-braking experience.
game: Fable 2
news | 08/08/07 | Chris Martin
Some incorporate, others innovate. Peter Molyneux is the kind of developer that makes you want to give him a
big hug. He\'s the kind of developer that is not satisfied with the way games are and
insists that he innovate. He is the kind of man who gets an idea and runs with it. Recently, Peter Molyneux, in an interview and combat demonstration with
Kikizo, had a lot to say about the state of combat in video games, and a lot to say about how Fable 2 would change it all, forever.
game: Stuntman: Ignition
preview | 07/23/07 | Chris Martin
One of the under-the-radar games this year, THQ\'s Stuntman: Ignition, has us all excited. Whether it\'s the parody of big-budget action films, the balance of risk and reward, or the allure of string-combos, this game seems to have quite a lot to offer gamers. We took the stuntman\'s job for several hours in the Xbox Live demo of Stuntman: Ignition. We ran through burning buildings, shot down helicopters, and braved a hand-brake-less-reverse-one-eighty, and have big, big smiles to show for it. More inside!
news | 07/16/07 | Chris Martin
It actually came to Xbox Live last week, but I thought I\'d share it anyway. Both Blue Dragon and Ace Combat 6 have their own demos, but so do 2K Sports\' The BIGS, EA\'s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and THQ\'s Stuntman: Ignition. Quite a bit to keep you busy if you don\'t have enough games already.
game: Bomberman: Act Zero
review | 12/07/06 | Sean Hilliard
We sent our resident cheeky strategy freak Sean to get the story on Bomberman: Act Zero. After the fiasco that was F.E.A.R. Extraction Point we thought that everyone\'s favorite neighborhood explosives expert would be a nice change of pace. Boy, were we wrong! Not only has the new Bomberman been stripped of his best classic gameplay, it\'s been replaced by a semi-FPS element that simply makes it hard to see. Add in 99 uninspired levels and no ability to save, and you\'ll soon mourn Bomberman of old. Check out Sean\'s write-up to see why.
game: Naruto Ninja Council 2
review | 11/30/06 | Amanda Bateman
Do you need some ninjitsu in your portable gaming life? Don\'t get enough anime on television? Naruto Ninja Council 2 blends side-scrolling adventure and fighting-game style action, which sounds awesome on paper. But you might want to check out this review before making the big purchase.
game: Gears of War
editorial | 11/12/06 | Chris Martin
Foot in the mouth? That\'s what we\'re thinking. When Alain Tascan, General Manager for EA Montreal, stated that Gears of War has \"zero innovation,\" we guess that soon after he was either munching on a big bowl of \"his own words\" or the rubber of a Doc Marten. Either way: here\'s our take.
game: Garfield and his Nine Lives
review | 10/08/06 | Amanda Bateman
Garfield stars in his very own Game Boy Advance game, rescuing friends and eating junk food...even while he\'s sleeping. Much like the recent Garfield movies, there\'s really nothing to see here unless you have a five-year-old screaming for it. If you are hoping to satisfy a pre-gamer with a thing for grumpy cats, then Garfield and His Nine Lives might buy a few hours of quiet on the next big roadtrip. Check Amanda\'s review for details.
news | 10/06/06 | Chris Martin
It\'s about damn time the video game industry got a respectable awards ceremony (that\'s a big f#$%-you to Spike TV, by the way). BAFTA actually has given awards to games that deserve them. To all the development companies out there, who put so much hard work into their games, there\'s finally a way to give to them the honor and respect they deserve. This is truly a first step to viewing video games as an art form. This year, LocoRoco and Tom Clany\'s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter get their due, as do Lego Star Wars II: the Original Trilogy, Dr. Kawashima\'s Brain Training: How Old is Your Brain?, and The Movies, among others.
game: DEFCON
review | 10/04/06 | Chris Galbraith
Introversion scored big with Darwinia, a game well-known for its unorthodox graphics and approach. Now, the indy developers from Britain have released the next big thing: Defcon. Defcon puts players in control of a huge nuclear arsenal to duke out doomsday using an interface that looks straight out of the classic game/nuke movie, War Games. Would you like to play a game? How about Global Thermonuclear War? Get the full story from our intrepid strategist Chris G.
game: Xbox Live Vision Camera
review | 09/26/06 | Shawn Rider
The Xbox Live Vision Camera is a great thing in most ways, but we wish there were more to do with it at the moment. Having just launched, not a lot of folks have dropped the 40 beans necessary to add a (slightly creepy) glowing eye to your Xbox 360s already too powerful and communicative brain. But the potential is undeniable: A solid camera and incredibly easy installation and configuration bode well for this device, which may also hold Microsoft\'s key to providing Wii-like game interaction without a controller. Get the full story in our eyes-on review.
news | 08/21/06 | George Holomshek
As reported by IGN, in a recent interveiw with Japan\'s monthly Nintendo Dream magazine, legendary game creator Shigeru Miyamoto unveiled that Nintendo has made some serious changes to the control scheme of the Wii version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. What does that mean? More natural sword-swinging and more. Our man George has all the details in this story.
